Cardfront Swap on Display

During the weekend of 1 - 3 May, the Red Hots and guests got together for our annual Red Hot Mini Gathering. Last year, the mini was here in San Antonio, so this year, it was held in Denton, TX. We take turns--one year here in San Antonio, the next year up in the Dallas area.
And using deductive reasoning, it's reasonably safe to deduce that it will be here in San Antonio next year. :}
And just so you know, if you look up the word "woodmaking," you will probably see Gloria's face there. She and wood go hand and hand. I think she relishes the power of the saw in her hands.
For the mini gathering, we each got this card display stand. It's made of, yes, you guessed it, wood AND a metal sheet covered with black paper. To hold our cardfront swaps, Gloria used clear envelopes glued to each other.

Berry berry clever huh?
I'll post photos of the swaps shortly!!!!!
Great job Gloria!!!! :}

Window From the Past!

The Story Behind the Window

Recently, Zip and I, in our quest for adventure and fun because we are both retired and have nothing better to do, went to Los Patios here in San Antonio. If you have never been to Los Patios--it's a must see.
They have a super duper nice restaurant and various unique shops spread out on the property, and the most beautiful and tranquil green stuff you have ever seen. It's like a little oasis in the desert of San Antonio.

Well, Zip was especially excited to visit Los Patios because he found out that one of the buildings there had a window from the Katy train station (official name is MKT, Missouri, Kansas, Texas Railway) in San Antonio. It was demolished in 1969 and the window is the only surviving piece of architecture from that station.
Zip and a fellow member of the train club are trying to restore a "model" of that station, so Zip wanted to go see the actual window, which was moved to Los Patios and made part of one of the buildings there.
This building houses the Skeepskin & Leather Collection, owned by The Knudsen's, who we found out are Danish, from Denmark, and they both speak Danish!!!! I cannot tell you how thrilled I was to know this because I have a whole box of letters, journals, and notes written by my grandfather and grandmother (on my Dad's side), who were born in Denmark and no clue as to what anything means. The Knudsen's said they would be willing to translate them for me!!!!!!

So our little adventure to Los Patios proved very interesting for both of us!!!!

If you are ever in the San Antonio area, you won't be disappointed if you make a quick stop at Los Patios, 2015 Northeast Loop 410, to see the beautiful window from the Katy Train Station and to take in a little shopping or some vittles.

So you saw the January calendars in my previous post but nothing else.
I've been a bad bad girl, huh?
So this is Calendar Ketchup time. Enjoy!

We Will Never Forget!

When I was working, Memorial Day meant another day off. An extra day to catch up on things or just do nothing at all. Well, since I've been retired, ALL my days are an extra day to catch up on things or do nothing at all (yeah right). It's easy to forget WHY there is a Memorial Day.
This day is filled with the souls of our soldiers. It's a day that should make us stop for 24 hours and think about the lives of others instead of our own. Sure, Memorial Day is part of a 3-day weekend, filled with thoughts of summer time fun and vacations, and maybe even a BBQ in the backyard or local parks.
For many, Memorial Day is day of sadness, filled with tears and lost memories.
If we can stop for just one day and remember our soldiers, those whose lives were cut all too short, and the soldiers still fighting the fight, we not only honor them but this country as well.
Let's never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy. Let's never forget that we live in the greatest country in the world. Let's never forget WHY we are the greatest country in the world.
In this way, we honor our soldiers daily.
The beautiful roses and card were given to Zip and me from Dianna, a friend and fellow stamper, last Sunday (the day before Memorial Day). She also had roses and cards for three others who had a military connection. We had all come together for a class at my house!
Her sincere desire to honor us in some way was so thoughtful and loving. Thank you so much Dianna!!
